Main Characters
Cole Matthews - a 15-year old child who can't control his emotions and oftenly commit harmful acts. He was given a choice to either have a chance to heal by joining circle of justice or go to prison. He was banished to an isolated island in Alaska after he agreed to heal. He hates his parents for the way they treated him and he always blames the others for his problems. He is the main character of the story.
The Spirit Bear - A mystic bear living on the Alaskan island. It is hard to meet and it doesn't try to hurt human unless human attack first.
It is believed that it is a ghost bear or a god like bear, hence the name, because this bear is spiritual. People feel trust when they touch the bear's head, but so far only Cole get to do that. The Spirit Bear has white fur and claws.
Garvey - Representative of the Circle of Justice. He gave Cole the chance to apply for healing through the Healing Circle of the Circle Justice and this ultimately leads to Cole's trial to stay on a Alaskan island on his own for a year. Garvey, like a philosopher, is very smart, and can just use simple way to tell Cole principles. He is very optimistic and likes to help peoples like Cole. He likes to call Cole 'Champ'.
Peter Driscal - A skinny red haired ninth grader who always get picked on by Cole Matthews. He was later beaten by Cole very severely that it had caused him permanent damage. He took surgeries but yet was not fully healed. He appeared to be scared and quiet, and have a great fear for Cole.
Edwin - Garvey's helper. He help Garvey to transport Cole onto the island. He feel sympathy for Cole and he taught Cole the things he need to do to survive on the island. He appeared to feel no fear for Cole, which surprised Cole because this is not how normally people feel about him. He had went through similar crisis as Cole did in the past.
